News A Montague County jury on Wednesday gave the
maximum punishment to a Bowie man who was eligible for probation in a drug
lab case.
The seven-woman and five man jury deliberated about an hour and 20
minutes Wednesday before sentencing James Caswell, 46, to 99 years in
prison and a $10,000 fine for one count of methamphetamine manufacturing,
Assistant 97th District Attorney Jack McGaughey said. Caswell was once a
food store manager and a car salesman.
He had no prior convictions but faces multiple meth-related charges,
officials said. He was being held today in Montague County Jail and begins
serving his sentence immediately.
Prosecutors haven't decided how they'll handle the remaining meth
charges against Caswell, McGaughey said. Caswell pleaded guilty Monday to
one count of meth manufacturing. His plea was not the result of a plea
bargain.
